HERO Before Your Visit

How to prepare for your assessment

A few simple steps before we arrive help us capture your real, everyday air — not a temporarily altered version of it. Here's everything you need to know before your appointment.

BEFORE Before Your Appointment

Three steps in the days beforehand.

72 hours before

Pause all construction & renovation

Dust and particles from building work take days to settle. Stop any construction or renovation at least 72 hours before your visit.

48 hours before

Stop essential oils & air fresheners

Turn off diffusers, scented candles, plug-in fragrances, and essential oil devices. These directly affect VOC and particulate readings.

4 hours before

Turn off indoor air devices

Switch off misters, humidifiers, and your HVAC system so the air in each room settles to its natural, undisturbed state before we arrive.

IF RADON (conditional) If You Added Radon Testing

Radon needs “closed-house” conditions.

Radon is measured with a continuous monitor we leave in place for a minimum of 48 hours, then return to collect. For an accurate reading, keep the home closed up as normal during that window. These steps only apply if radon is part of your visit.

Keep windows & exterior doors closed

Keep them closed for the full 48 hours the monitor is deployed — normal quick comings and goings are fine. If you’re also doing the full assessment, closed-house conditions begin right after we place the monitor at that visit; before then, live normally so the assessment captures your everyday air.

Run heating & AC as normal

Your usual HVAC is fine and encouraged. Just avoid whole-house fans, open-window fans, or evaporative “swamp” coolers that pull in outside air. Ceiling fans are okay.

Don’t move or cover the monitor

Leave it exactly where we place it — in the lowest lived-in level, away from drafts, exterior walls, and direct sun. Keep it undisturbed until we return.

Keep it out of reach

Don’t set anything on top of it, and keep it away from children and pets so the 48-hour reading isn’t disturbed.

We come back for it. After the 48-hour window we return to collect the monitor, so radon testing includes a second short visit. Your radon result is added to your written report.

ON THE DAY On the Day of Your Assessment

Keep things exactly as they normally are.

Live normally

Keep your usual routine for the full 24 hours before we arrive. Run regular appliances and keep windows as you normally would — don't try to improve the air.

No deep cleaning

Avoid vacuuming, mopping, or dusting on the day. Cleaning stirs up particles and can temporarily mask or elevate the readings we collect.

No extra ventilation

Don't open extra windows or run fans to air things out. We need to measure the air you actually live in — not a freshly ventilated version.

Clear all pathways

Make sure we can reach every room and living area of your home. The more areas we can access, the more complete your results will be.

GOOD TO KNOW Good to Know

A few logistics before we arrive.

Crate or relocate pets

Ideally, pets are crated or moved to a separate area for the visit. It keeps them comfortable and lets us move freely through every room.

An adult must be present

If any minors will be in the home during the assessment, an adult needs to be present for the entire visit.

Reschedule if anyone is sick

Please let us know and reschedule if anyone in the home is unwell. We're glad to find a new time — no problem at all.

Payment at the end of the visit

Payment is due at the end of the inspection, before your written report is sent over. We'll walk you through your options on the day.

WHAT TO EXPECT What to Expect on the Day

From arrival to your report.

1

Duration 1.5 – 3 hours

The time depends on your home's size. We move methodically through every accessible room and area.

2

Room-by-room scan

We measure all parameters simultaneously in each area using our professional instruments.

3

Outdoor baseline

An outdoor reading is taken first to provide a local reference for comparison with your indoor results.

4

On-site review

Before we leave, we'll walk you through the most important findings and answer any questions you have.

5

Report in 48 hours

Your full written report — room data, plain-language interpretation, and a prioritized action plan — arrives by email.

Why the prep matters: these steps aren't about making your air look good — they're about measuring it honestly. An accurate baseline is what makes your report genuinely useful.

FAQ Common Questions

Before we arrive.

Do I need to be home during the assessment?

Someone 18 or older should be home to let us in and lock up, and an adult must be present the entire time if any minors are in the home. Otherwise you're welcome to go about your day while we work — we'll find you for the walkthrough before we leave.

What if it rains or the weather is bad?

That's no problem — the assessment goes ahead as planned. We take an outdoor baseline reading regardless of conditions, and weather doesn't affect our ability to measure your indoor air. We'd only reschedule for genuinely unsafe travel conditions, and we'll always call you first if that's the case.

How accurate is the testing?

We use professional-grade instruments and measure every parameter in each room simultaneously, then compare against an outdoor baseline for context — far more reliable than a single grab-sample. The prep steps above matter here: they ensure we're measuring your real, everyday air rather than a temporarily altered version of it.

What happens if you find a problem?

You'll get a clear written report showing exactly where any issue is and how significant it is, with a plain-language interpretation and a prioritized action plan. Because we only test — we don't sell remediation or mitigation — our findings are unbiased, and we'll point you toward trusted professionals if work is needed. See a sample report →

How long until I get my results?

We'll walk you through the most important findings on-site before we leave, and your full written report arrives by email within 48 hours.

Is radon testing any different?

Yes. Radon is measured with a monitor we leave in place for a minimum of 48 hours, so it needs “closed-house” conditions — windows and exterior doors kept closed during the test — and a second short visit for us to collect the device. See the radon prep steps above if radon is part of your visit.

How and when do I pay?

Payment is due at the end of the inspection, before your written report is sent over. We'll go over your options on the day of the visit.
